Countertop vs Under-Sink Water Filtration: Installation and Performance

Volume I  ·  May 2026  ·  169 words

The choice between countertop and under-sink water filters is primarily an installation decision. Countertop filters connect via a faucet diverter valve — no drilling, no permanent plumbing — and occupy 0.5-1.0 sq ft of counter space. The AquaTru Countertop RO and gravity filters are the dominant countertop formats. Under-sink filters connect to the cold water supply line and discharge through a dedicated faucet. The APEC ROES-50 is the reference system. Installation requires a supply line tap, drain saddle, and a 1/2-inch countertop hole — about 1-2 hours. Under-sink systems are invisible and provide higher flow rates on full line pressure. For renters or anyone who cannot drill, countertop systems are the only option. For homeowners, under-sink provides cleaner installation and higher capacity at lower per-gallon cost.
