EV Emergency Charging Calculator
Volume I · May 2026 · 689 words
Determine whether a portable power station can provide meaningful emergency range to an electric vehicle using a Level 1 (120V) mobile charger. This calculator accounts for EV efficiency, charging overhead, and power station capacity to estimate miles of range added. For a detailed analysis, see our EV emergency charging guide.

Important: A portable power station can provide emergency EV
charging — typically 3–15 miles of range — but is not a practical daily
charging solution. Level 1 charging draws approximately 1,440W (120V × 12A),
and many power stations under 2,000W inverter rating cannot sustain this load
without tripping. The Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus (3,000W inverter) and
EcoFlow Delta Pro (3,600W) are the only commonly available units capable of
sustained Level 1 EV charging. Always verify your specific power station's
continuous inverter rating before connecting an EV charger.
